Andretta Pottery’s slip design plates are handcrafted earthenware pieces that fuse traditional Kangra art with fine studio pottery craftsmanship. Made in the small Himachali village of Andretta, these plates are shaped from all-natural terracotta clay and feature intricate surface decoration created through the slip trailing technique—a process where diluted colored clay (slip) is applied in flowing patterns inspired by local Rangoli motifs.
Each plate undergoes a meticulous 15-day making process that includes clay wedging, wheel throwing, trimming, drying, bisque firing, glaze firing, and final polishing. The intricate slip designs—often floral or geometric—emerge through careful layering and texturing with slip trailers and sgraffito tools. Plates like the Tulsi, Vine, Lotus, and Passiflora editions show hand-piped designs that preserve traditional aesthetics while maintaining a modern, earthy sensibility.
- Fired at around 1080°C, these pieces are food-safe, lead-free, and both microwave- and oven-proof.
